"@aa: Wow, I am so impressed that you were able to paraphrase Wikipedia and Investopedia for such a succinct definition of NPV and IRR analysis.
As for what you call the "risk/reward" aspect towards NPV/IRR, please do provide me with links to the literature that demonstrate various company views towards NPV/IRR as a "risk/reward."

"Google could have held a key-role in demonstrating what a company needs to do during a serious economic downturn; instead Google decided to throw a piss-poor rave.

"Not that I actually care too much about Barry, but InterActiveCorp does have some issues that need to be answered:
1) It has a huge amount of "goodwill" on its asset side of the balance sheet, meaning that probably paid way too much too acquire other companies.
2) Net income is negative, but that could just be a way to dodge paying taxes.
3) Lastly, and most importantly, one would need to run a discounted cash flow analysis to see if investors thought is was over valued."
